Why Wednesbury businesses are ranked separately

is a ranking factor in local results. A business ranking in Wednesbury is not thereby ranking in Darlaston, Tipton or West Bromwich, because Google weighs each search from where the person is standing.

How far a business is from the person searching. Google names it, as “distance”, as one of three things that decide local results, alongside relevance and prominence.

Wednesbury sits inside Sandwell, between Walsall and West Bromwich, close enough to both that a business can be found easily in one and invisible in the next. That closeness is exactly why a single reported position is misleading here.

Each area you want work from is a separate search, with its own pack and its own holders.

What Wednesbury’s results actually look like

Three agency searches were captured for Wednesbury on 21 September 2026 through the SerpApi Google Search API, desktop, google.co.uk.

The head term “local seo Wednesbury” returns no at all. The other two terms do return one, with nine to ten organic results per term.

The block of local business listings shown with a map near the top of Google results when a search has local intent.

Here is the part worth reading twice. Of the pack holders whose address Google returned, not one is in Wednesbury. They sit in Walsall WS1 and in central Birmingham. Two of the six pack entries returned no address at all, so they are recorded as unknown and counted neither way.

The review floor is 1 on “seo agency Wednesbury” and 4 on “digital marketing agency Wednesbury”.

A Wednesbury business reading that has been handed something unusual: a local pack held entirely by businesses from other towns, defended by as little as one review. Proximity is a ranking factor, and on these terms nobody local is using it.

What Sandwell actually holds

Nomis publishes no separate business series for Wednesbury, so the figures below describe Sandwell, the local authority Wednesbury belongs to. They are named as Sandwell throughout rather than relabelled, because a district figure presented as a town figure is not checkable.

Sandwell had 10,140 enterprises in 2025, from ONS Business Counts via Nomis, dataset NM_142_1.

The largest shares are wholesale and retail trade including vehicle repair at 22.8%, construction at 13.0%, transportation and storage at 13.0%, manufacturing at 9.1%, professional, scientific and technical activities at 7.4%, and accommodation and food services at 7.1%.

Of the three West Midlands authorities pulled for this site, Sandwell has the highest wholesale and retail share, the highest combined construction and transport share, and it is the only one where manufacturing reaches the top four.

That profile is trade-heavy, vehicle-heavy and logistics-heavy, and it matches the two client results below rather than sitting beside them as decoration.

What is covered

Six surfaces, the same six the free audit inspects.

Businesses we work with in Wednesbury

Two Wednesbury businesses have agreed to be named, in two different sectors. Their figures are reported separately because they are separate pieces of work, measured different ways.

AutoPop Accident Repair Centre: vehicle accident repair

Measured on 11 August 2026 through the SerpApi Google Search API, desktop, google.co.uk:

38 of AutoPop’s 47 services have a measured Google position.

28 of 39 measured service searches return AutoPop at organic #1.

AutoPop appears in the Google local pack on 11 of those searches.

Those three figures are stated as measured and no further. Positions move, so they are dated, and they will be re-measured before they are quoted again.

DrClear: waste management and house clearance

Measured in Google Search Console, comparing the nine months to July 2026 against the preceding period:

Organic clicks grew 335% per day and impressions 631% per day, with average position improving from 26.2 to 23.6.

Those are per-day figures on purpose. The two comparison windows are different lengths, 273 days against 184, so the raw totals would be inflated by the longer window alone. The per-day rates survive that correction and the raw totals do not, which is why the raw totals are not published anywhere on this site.

Results vary with sector, starting position, competition and the state of the site at the outset. Neither result predicts what another business will see, and outcomes are not guaranteed.

Questions

Why is there no map pack for “local seo Wednesbury”?

Google decides per query whether a local pack helps, and on that phrase it currently does not show one. That was measured on 21 September 2026 rather than assumed. On the two phrases that do show a pack, none of the holders whose address was returned is a Wednesbury business.

Do you actually work with businesses in Wednesbury?

Yes, and two of them agreed to be named: AutoPop Accident Repair Centre in vehicle accident repair, and DrClear in waste management and house clearance. Their figures are above, reported separately and dated.

Why are the Sandwell figures not called Wednesbury figures?

Because they are not. ONS publishes business counts by local authority, and Wednesbury is part of Sandwell rather than an authority of its own. Relabelling a Sandwell figure as a Wednesbury one would make it impossible to check against the source.

Does a Wednesbury business have a real chance in these packs?

The measurement says the packs are held by businesses from Walsall and Birmingham, with a floor as low as one review. Proximity is a ranking factor, so a correctly set-up Wednesbury profile starts with an advantage none of the current holders has. That is a starting position, not a promise.
