Construction and Building Firms SEO
Construction and Building Firms SEO is the work of getting a builder found by the clients worth having, for the projects worth quoting. Dr IT SEO Services is a founder-led agency in Birmingham, where Vlad Tabaranu does the auditing and the fixes himself. This page carries one documented result, and it is old enough that the date is stated every time it appears.

What building firms are competing against
Lead marketplaces, mostly.
The broad searches a builder would want are held by platforms that sell the enquiry rather than do the work, and they sell it to several builders at once. A firm buying leads there is bidding against its own competitors for a client who is, by design, comparing on price.
Behind those sit the directories and the review aggregators, then the national contractors with content teams.
What that leaves is the project and the place: the specific job, in the specific area, described the way the client describes it. Those searches are smaller, less contested, and carry a client who has already decided what they want built.
Construction has a search problem the other trades do not
The buying cycle is long and the search behaviour changes across it.
Somebody planning an extension searches for ideas months before they search for a builder, and by the time they search for a builder they have usually already decided who to ask. A firm that appears only at the quoting stage is arriving after the shortlist was written.
The work that changes this is coverage across the whole cycle rather than a homepage aimed at the final search. It is also slower to pay back than clearance or repair work, and a builder should be told that before commissioning rather than after.
What we changed for a building firm
AVS Building Services, named here with permission: their site carries a live Dr IT SEO Services footer credit.
Measured across two rank-tracker reports six months apart, dated 25 May 2019 and 27 November 2019, both re-fetched and verified in August 2026.
Search visibility rose from 4% to 15% between May and November 2019.
Top-ten rankings went from 1 keyword to 19 over the same period.
First-position rankings went from 0 to 2 over the same period.
Three things this result is not
The two reports are not fully comparable, and the honest figures above are the ones that survive the differences.
The tracked keyword set grew from 216 to 320 across the six months, so any count taken over the whole set is measuring a bigger basket as well as better performance. That growth is context and is not quoted as a result.
The reports’ own buckets changed: May counts positions in the top 100, November counts the top 50. A figure comparing one against the other would be answering two different questions at once, so no such figure appears here.
The tracker also switched its search-engine view between the reports. That is a third reason the raw counts are not like-for-like, and a third reason only visibility, top-ten and first-position are quoted.
And the date matters. This result is from 2019. It is documented and it is real, and it is also seven years old: search has changed, and it should be read as evidence that the method works rather than as a current benchmark. AVS is also London-based, so it evidences the sector rather than West Midlands building work.
Results vary with sector, starting position, competition and the state of the site at the outset, and outcomes are not guaranteed.
How the work runs
One page per project type, because a builder who does extensions, loft conversions, refurbishments and structural work sells four things and is searched for four times.
One page per area genuinely served, because is a ranking factor and a builder’s travel radius is a real commercial limit rather than a marketing one.
How far a business is from the person searching. Google names it, as “distance”, as one of three things that decide local results, alongside relevance and prominence.
Content that meets the client early in the cycle as well as late, since the shortlist is usually written before the search for a builder happens.
The Google Business Profile carrying the same service list as the site.
Measurement per term and per area, dated, so a figure can be checked.
What is covered
Six surfaces, the same six the free audit inspects.
What happens next
Ask for the free audit. It tells you which of the six surfaces is costing you enquiries, so you can decide whether the detailed work is worth commissioning at all, from us or from anyone else.
Audit requests sent before 12:00 Monday to Friday receive a reply the same day. Requests arriving after 12:00, at a weekend, or on a UK public holiday receive a reply on the next working day.
Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 09:30 to 17:30, and the number is 07405 149750.
Questions
Why publish a result from 2019?
Because it is the documented construction result we hold, and burying it would be worse than dating it. Search has changed since, so it shows the method rather than a current benchmark, and it is labelled that way every time it appears. A newer construction result would replace it.
Why not quote the bigger keyword numbers?
Because they compare different things. The May report counts the top 100 and the November report counts the top 50, across a keyword set that grew from 216 to 320. Three figures survive those changes and those three are the ones above.
How long does construction SEO take to pay back?
Longer than repair or clearance work, because the buying cycle is longer. A client planning an extension may search for months before contacting anybody. That is worth knowing before commissioning rather than after.
Do you work with builders outside the West Midlands?
Yes. The SEO and web work is delivered remotely across the UK, and the documented result on this page is a London firm.
